Doctor-led cosmetic medicine at Northpoint Medical
Aesthetics @ Northpoint provides medical cosmetic consultations for people who would like to discuss facial ageing, appearance-related concerns and non-surgical cosmetic treatment options.
Dr Ken McNicol
Dr Ken McNicol is an experienced general practitioner with more than 25 years in medical practice and additional training in non-surgical cosmetic medicine.
He completed Foundation and Advanced aesthetic training with Derma Medical Training Academy in 2019 and has continued further professional education and practical training in aesthetic medicine.
His subsequent training through the Allergan Medical Institute has included advanced facial anatomy, facial assessment and treatment planning, the MD Codes™ approach, mid-face and lower-face assessment, lip techniques, projection and contouring techniques, and further education with leading Australian aesthetic practitioners including Dr Steven Liew, Dr Sarah Hart and Dr Catherine Porter.
Dr McNicol has also undertaken in-person practical training in facial aesthetic and filler techniques.
A Medical Approach
Cosmetic treatment begins with an individual medical assessment.
During your consultation, Dr McNicol will discuss your concerns and what you would like to achieve, assess your facial anatomy and proportions, review relevant medical history, medications and previous cosmetic treatments, discuss appropriate treatment options and alternatives, explain expected outcomes and limitations, discuss potential adverse effects and complications, and determine whether treatment is appropriate for you.
There is no obligation to proceed with treatment after a consultation.
Safety and Follow-up
Patient safety is central to the way Aesthetics @ Northpoint provides cosmetic care.
Dr McNicol maintains appropriate emergency medicines, equipment and clinical protocols for recognising and managing complications associated with cosmetic treatment.
Follow-up is available if concerns arise after treatment.
We are also happy to assess patients who are unhappy with the result of previous cosmetic treatment, including treatment performed elsewhere.
Where clinically appropriate, some treatments may be able to be adjusted, corrected or reversed.
Not every treatment can be reversed, and an individual medical assessment is required before any corrective treatment is undertaken.

Individualised Treatment
There is no single cosmetic treatment that is appropriate for everyone.
Recommendations are made only after individual assessment and discussion, taking into account your anatomy, medical history, previous treatments and personal goals.
Our aim is to provide considered, medically supervised cosmetic care with realistic treatment goals and appropriate follow-up.

Anti-Wrinkle Treatments
Anti-wrinkle treatments are designed to soften the appearance of fine lines and dynamic wrinkles that develop from repeated facial expressions over time.
These treatments are commonly used for areas such as:
- Forehead lines
- Frown lines between the eyebrows
- Crow’s feet around the eyes
- Brow lift
- Chin dimpling
- Jawline slimming
- Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)
The goal is not to remove expression but to soften lines and create a refreshed, relaxed appearance.
Results typically develop over several days and usually last 3–4 months, although this varies between individuals.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are used to restore lost volume, enhance facial contours, and soften deeper lines.
As we age, the natural collagen and fat that support the face gradually decrease. Dermal fillers can help restore structure and balance.
Common treatment areas include:
• Cheeks
• Lips
• Nasolabial folds (lines from nose to mouth)
• Marionette lines
• Jawline definition
• Chin enhancement
Our doctors focus on natural facial harmony, avoiding overfilled or unnatural results.
Results are visible immediately and typically last 6–18 months, depending on the treatment area and product used.
Personalised Cosmetic Consultations
Every patient begins with a comprehensive cosmetic consultation where we discuss:
- Your concerns and aesthetic goals
- Treatment options
- Risks and benefits
- Expected results
- Costs and maintenance treatments
This ensures you have clear information before deciding on any treatment.
